Baking Fun

Today our Scarning barn owls enjoyed participating in some baking fun with our setting manager Laura.

The children spoke about the ingredients that we needed to use to make gingerbread biscuits and they enjoyed using their ‘smell’ sense to explore the ginger and cinnamon.
They showed great team work and turn taking skills and patience to mix all the ingredients together before using their motor skills to roll out the dough nice and flat to make the biscuits .
Choice was promoted as the children chose between making a big gingerbread person or a little gingerbread person.

Baking always creates lots of discussions as the children speak fondly of baking/cooking at home with parents/grandparents.

“Ooo that smells lovely”
“That’s ginger”
“I love cookies”
“I bake at home with my granny”
“I am going to share mine with my brother”
“I like to ice mine with orange icing”
“They need to go in the oven”
“Be careful when you put them in so you don’t burn yourself”
