Barn Owls Eggs & World Oral Health Day

Barn Owls Eggs

Today we have had a very egg-citing delivery to barn owls toftwood!! Today we received our very own eggs which we will help grow into chicks!

The eggs have been placed inside an incubator to keep warm for the next 21 days as the chicks grow!
The barn owl children have been learning all about this process during grouptime, we have learnt how the chicks will grow inside the eggs, how we will look after them when they hatch and how we will see them grow and develop once they hatch!
We will keep you updated regularly on this exciting journey!

World Oral Health Day

This week at Toftwood Barn owls Red we have taken part in lots of activities raising awareness around oral hygiene linking in with their physical development.

Some of the wonderful activities we have already experienced have been , teeth brushing activity , listening to stories about our teeth and cleaning giants teeth .
To help promote oral hygiene, linking in with our Barn owls interests ,our Barn Owl practitioners have been busy making a brand new role play area for our Red room Barn owls to explore and use their imagination based all around ‘ going to the dentist ‘ reflecting on some children’s experiences of visiting the dentist’s .
Some of the conversations heard within their play , ‘ open wide !’,’ There’s no patients !’ ,I’m sick , my teeth ‘ ,toothbrush please !’
Well done Barn Owls

More World Oral Health Day

sharing stories all about teeth and how to look after them.
teeth brushing activity
healthy teeth and dentist colouring pictures
engaging in healthy snack time
and even…..cleaning a giants teeth!!! Yes, we managed to get teeth from a GIANTS mouth… . This fascinated the children.
promoting health awareness by talking to the children about tooth brushing and making healthy choices at snack time
all these activities are fun and engaging and the goal is to develop chidlren’s awarenesss of keeping their teeth healthy, learning how to brush teeth and developing an awareness of eating healthily.
By taking part in activites such as these and learning at home about the importance of looking after our teeth, children will be able to manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
We have made a weekend bag dedicated to promoting healthy teeth awareness. It has stories, tooth brushing activity, some teeth to explore (not giants teeth!!) and a fact sheet. If you would like to take the weekend bag home, please speak to your child’s Key worker who will arrange this.
