Builders trays, The Three Bears & Bird seed mix

Supertato Builders Tray

This morning in Barn Owls Toftwood to celebrate world book week the children have been busy exploring a builders tray themed around one of our favourite stories! SUPERTATO!
The children got to spend time creating their own supertatos using potatos, lolly pop sticks, tissue paper, googly eyes and glitter!!
Whilst the children created their supertatos we spoke about what they could remember about the story!
‘There’s an evil pea’
‘Supertato is a superhero’
Well done Barn owls!

Barn Owls and the Three Bears!

This morning in Barn Owls Red we have been listening to Goldilocks and the Three Bears during group time, we all really enjoyed the story! Afterwards we put on our coats and made a visit to our Forest School area to cook ourselves some porridge on the fire for snack!
The Barn Owls all had a chance to mix up the oats with honey and oat milk before we lit the fire and watched it grow bigger as it cooked our porridge!
The Barn Owls had some lovely predictions about what they thought their snack would taste like – “I think it will taste like honey” and “it’s gonna taste nice”.
After eating, we heard some more things like – “it’s warm” and “my porridge tastes like strawberries”.
Keep watch on your Barn Owls famly account for more activities this week

Bird seed mix

This week in Barn owls Scarning the children have been creating their own special bird seed mix, as we have focussing on nature around us. We have been discussing about how birds find it harder to eat in the winter months, so we need to help them. The children discussed about what birds like to eat with their familiar adults, then they were able to independently choose what to add to their mix from a selection of; bird seed, meal worms, oats, cornflakes and raisins. The children were practising their counting skills, counting out how many handfuls of each food item they were putting in their bags. They have also been practicing writing their names on the food bags before creating their mix. This activity created lots of great communication, discussions and questions from the children between themselves, their familiar adults and their peers.
“I help my nanna feed her chickens with worms, the ducks are greedy and eat all the worms”.
“Is this enough Mica?”.
“Can I do one?”.
“Bird seed”.
“Worms”.
“One, two, three”.
“Birds live in my garden”.
Well done Barn Owls, the birds will enjoy eating your bird food!
