Celebrating Diwali

Throughout the week, Barn owls Scarning have been celebrating Diwali and learning lots about this special tradition. The children have have decorated a variety of Rangoli patterns. ”I’m going to add jewels to my picture”. They made tea light holders out of clay and decorated them with hammer beads. “I have to let it dry then It will be hard”. They have also learned about Henna drawings and chose a pattern to be drawn on their hands using face paint. “I love painting”. Barn owls then tried some yummy Indian food for snack, this consisted of poppadoms, naan bread and mango chutney. “The sauce is sweet”, “I love poppadoms, I have them at home for dinner”

Barn Owls in Scarning constructing structures

Today at Barn Owls Scarning the children have been using their imagination skills to construct structures using marshmallows and spaghetti pasta, they have been working alongside each other, sharing the resources, trying hard not to eat the marshmallows. While building the children have been using their motors skills as well as great communication, they have been using their senses to feel the marshmallows in their hands, and smelling saying ‘it smells yummy’. The children have been making; a scarecrow, weights, people and more. The children have also been talking about the shapes they have made ‘square’ and recognised shapes their familiar adults have made ‘triangle’.
