Dinosaurs, group time resources & planning meetings

Dinosaurs

Following on from many of our children’s interest, we have been doing lots of activities all about dinosaurs this week.

We have been exploring a dinosaur swamp with mud, water and natural materials from our garden. The children used the spoons and spades to dig in the swamp and used the dinosaurs to stamp in the mud. Some of our children say “roar” as they played with the dinosaurs.
We have also done some dinosaur stomping in the paint. The children made marks using the dinosaurs on the paper. One child said “stomp stomp”

We have also been making some dinosaurs with our handprints today. Our key workers helped the children paint their hands and make prints on the paper.

Group time resources

Here at Little Owls Day Nursery we like to offer our Little Owls lots of adult led learning and exploring experiences! This morning a small group of our Snowy Owls Scarning have all sat together and enjoyed some new group time resources!
The children were eager to see what Colette had in the basket and when she pulled out items linking to their favourite songs they were so excited!
Together Colette and the Snowy Owls sang to “five current buns”, ”five little ducks went swimming one day” and “five little men in a flying saucer”
The children were excellent at joining in with the words to each song and also helped with each song as to how many characters or items we had left after each verse of the songs!
Here at Little Owls we like to incorporate maths into each area of provision and each adult led activity where appropriate, today the children were able to count confidently from 1 to 10 all with support from Colette and used their fingers to point to each item counting each object as they went!

The children maintained excellent focus on this activity for a long period of time before going back off to play with the rest of their Snowy Owls friends! “That was fun!” “I like the little ducks one” “I got a bun!” “1..2..3..4..5!” “I like ducks” “that’s a cherry!” “yellow duck!” “It’s my turn now” “I can sing loud” “watch me” “woooosh” “yay!”

Medium term planning meetings

Tonight both our amazing nurseries took part in medium term planning meetings
We thank our amazing teams for their continued hard work in planning and resourcing some wonderful activities for this term.

During this meeting we look at what’s going on in the world around us our children’s interests and then make links about what we want our children to know from these.

Our overachieving themes this term are weather, new life and spring. We also have lots of extra curriculum activities booked including in-house visits, story cafes and much more keep your eyes peeled for more information………….
