Earth Day

To celebrate earth day this week barn owls have been very busy learning all about the earth , and the different planets around us. Today barn owls have been working hard with Polly to make their very own paper mache globes .
We first talked about what the earth looks like, and what the different colours we see on the globe mean, barn owls were able to explain “the blue is water”, or “the sea”, that the green is “the grass”, and that the white is “snow”.
Barn Owls the worked together and took turns using glue to stick the tissue paper onto the balloon to make it look like the earth we live on. Barn Owls were also very keen to help Polly make her globe as well, and helped her to put the glue into her balloon. We are very excited to see what they look like when they dry

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!

Today in our Builder’s Tray we have enjoyed focusing on one of our Core Stories – Where the Wild Things Are!
After reading the story at group time, we tested our memory of the book in our tray. The Barn Owls remembered how Max’s room turned into a forest and how the trees “grew and grew” (KT) and how Max sailed through the sea for “24 years” (JR).
Having a look at the items in the tray, the Barn Owls pointed out that “max is sleeping” (HB) and his food was at the table and “was still hot” (GU). We felt the sand area of our tray and MR said “it feels like ceral” whilst MF said “it’s crunchy” and DM said “cereal”.
We had fun re-enacting the way the Wild Things roared their terrible roars, gnashed their terrible teeth, rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws!
Finally we had a look at the name Max written on the boat – HB and JR said “M for Max” and we all counted that there are 3 letters in the name Max.
After this, everyone went to town on the tray and had lots of fun piling up the cereal and feeding it to Max and the Wild Things (since they had to go to bed with “no supper” – ABM).
