Exploring snow, Library Bus & International Womens Day

Exploring the snow

This morning in Snowy Owls we all had the best time exploring the snow! For some of our children this was their first experience in the snow, and they absolutely loved it Snowy Owls enjoyed having snow ball fights, making snow men and some children even done snow angels! Snowy Owls had such an amazing time investigating the snow, but it was very chilly! So once we came inside we sat in the cozy room and read ‘oh no mr snowman’ whilst drinking some warm milk which Laura had prepared for us, well done Snowy Owls
•’I quite like the snow but it makes me hands cold’
•’3,2,1, GO’
•’my hair is wet now’
•’it’s all squishy’
•’look, baby snowman’

Library Bus

Today, we had our monthly visit from the local Library Bus.
We are so fortunate that the children are able to experience this service, as many don’t often have the opportunity to visit local libraries in town and be surrounded by such a choice of wonderful books and stories.
The chilren were eager to jump on board and search through lots and lots of books to see what captured their interest. We could even sit down and have a little look at some of the books before we took them back to nursery to share with our friends.
Once the children had chosen their books, they independently took them to the librarian who stamped their book and handed them back. We popped them into a special bag to take back to nursery.
This is a fantastic way to help children children develop their love for stories. it also supports all aspects of language development., as when children hear stories, they learn new words, their comprehension grows and they begin to develop phonological awareness. It also helps towards developing independence and confidence in carrying out simple tasks and making choices.
Some comments made by the children.
“WOW, lots of books”
“I like this one, it’s about knights”
“I found a crocodile one”
“Snap, snap”
“Pirates on a bus, we’re on a bus”
“Can you look at this one with me”
“Read this one at story time”
“Look, a Mr Men one, I like Mr Men

‘my mummy plays with me outside’
‘my mummy reads me stories’
