Fire fighters & World Book Day

Fire Fighters

This week in Barn Owls Scarning, following on from one of our children’s interest in being a fire fighter when they are older, and the children’s love of construction, with some help from their familiar adult, the children built their own fire engine out of our loose parts in the garden, they used the crates, ladder, hose and steering wheel. This activity really enhanced the children’s imagination skills with them role playing being fire fighters, they also added fire bikes to their play, as well as finding containers of water to throw at the house to put out the fires. The children also enjoyed taking it in turns to drive the fire engine and climbing up the ladder. This activity also encouraged some fantastic communication between the children with them saying:

“Fire fire”
“We need some more water”
“Where is the fire?”
“At the house”
“You be the driver, I will be the fireman”.

Well done Barn owls!
