Mud Kitchen, Play Dough & Diggers!

Mud Kitchen

As we continue to enhance our Mud Kitchen at Toftwood, we have included some vocabulary to support the children’s development in their speech and language as they mix together a variety of natural materials and explore what happens when they mix the materials together. We have also added some simple recipes for the children to follow as the practitioners support the children in using the language that reflects what they are doing; mix, whisk, pour, shake, drip, cook and discover lots more language.

Mint Scented Play Dough

This morning in Tawny Owls some of the toddlers have been very engaged investigating some mint scented play dough! The children have liked using the rolling pins to flatten and shape the dough, some of the children sprinkled some gold glitter in to the dough and they used some flower shaped cutters to make a selection of marks!
A practitioner encouraged the children to smell the mint, some of the children sniffed it, but weren’t sure about it, others liked it!
Our Toddlers enjoyed playing with the play dough for a long period of time! Lovely playing Tawny Owls

Diggers!

Recently snowy owls Toftwood have shown a huge interest in diggers following on from watching the diggers outside nursery building the speed bumps! We created a digger wash where the children parenthood dominant hands to hold the sponges and scrub the dirty diggers 🚜
Snowy Owls showed fantastic turn taking as they shared the sponges and diggers. The children also enjoyed exploring the different textures of the bubbles.
