Nature Walk, Chinese New Year & Celebrating Penguin Day

Nature Walk

This morning our barn owls have been on a lovely nature walk around the lake to see what we can see!
We tied this in with our phonic of the week ‘i’
We went on a hunt to see if we could anything that began with the sound ‘i’ This was quite a tricky sound to find but we did find Ivy! Which was curling round trees! We also spoke about how lots of our cars yesterday were covered in ice!
We did find lots of other wonderful nature items on our walk including fungus growing on trees, the horses in the field and lots of pine cones which had fallen off the trees!
Great hunting barn owls

Chinese New Year

In snowy owls toftwood, this week we are celebrating Chinese new year and this morning we started off by exploring some Chinese number.
Each child had an opportunity to have a go at mark making in the tray using their dominate hand and showing good control and concentration. We carefully looked at how each number was written and attempted to have a go.
We then extended our learning by looking at some pictures of what the Chinese culture like to do such as watch fireworks, enjoy some dancing and eat some good food with families and friends.

Celebrating Penguin Day

Tawny Owls Scarning have enjoyed some lovely Penguin themed activities last week, in honour of Penguin Day! The children have had fun engaging in lots of winter and penguin themed activities
We have had fun exploring a penguin playdough tray, where the children were able to use their motor skills to squash and roll the dough, and we also used the toy penguins to make footprints in the dough. We have also had fun in our Feeding the Penguin tray, scooping the oats with a spoon.
