Travel Plan

This Travel Information Plan aims to give our staff, customers and visitors practical travel information to and from our premises to encourage sustainable travel by bus, bike and on foot. Traffic jams and parking pressures can be a major source of frustration, so please make the most of this information and do your bit to keep Dereham and Toftwood moving. Please remember that this commitment was agreed as part of our planning consent and is an integral part of that agreement to help ensure traffic impact to our neighbours is mitigated over time.

Information held within the travel information plan will be reviewed and updated every 6 months. Public transport information can be checked by contacting Norfolk County Council on 0344 800 8020 or by emailing travelplans@norfolk.gov.uk

Travel information will be provided to all staff members, customers and visitors.

• Prospective parents will be sent a copy of our Travel Information Plan with their appointment invitation.
• Members of staff will receive their Travel Information Plan as part of their Induction Training.

Your local travel options

On foot

You can find our premises on School Lane in Toftwood and we are located virtually opposite the Toftwood Infant School and we are on the corner of School Lane and Boyd Avenue.

School Lane can be found off the main Shipdham Road which runs throughout the middle of Toftwood. School Lane is opposite the Co-op.

By bike

We are pleased to advise you that we have ample cycle parking facilities, in the form of six Sheffield Cycle Stands being available on site. Access to our nursery can be gained from our main entrance on School Lane or from a side entrance on Boyd Avenue. Staff will have the use of the staff room should they need to change before commencing work.

By bus

We are fortunate to have four bus stops within walking distance of Little Owls.

Bus Stop 1. Toftwood – School Lane, adjacent Boyd Avenue (Stop ID: nfoampdg)
Bus Stop 2. Dereham – Westfield Road, opposite School Lane (Stop ID: nfoamtjp)

Two bus services use these stops – First X1 and KonectBus 11. These bus stops are located on Shipdham Road and can be found near the Millwright Arms Public House. These bus stops are a five minute walk from the nursery.

By train

The nearest rail station to the nursery is Norwich Rail Station, Norwich with services being provided by Greater Anglia, www.greateranglia.co.uk. KonectBus 8 provides a service direct from Norwich Rail Station to Bus Stop 1. Toftwood – School Lane, adjacent Boyd Avenue

By car

Please note that we are able to offer on site parking for customers and visitors and would advise that the postcode for our Little Owls is NR19 1LR. Parking for staff members is provided at the Millwright Arms Public House (postcode NR19 1JW.)

Directions from Norwich (A47)

Take the Tesco’s exit and at the roundabout and take the second exit which is the Yaxham Road. Proceed along the Yaxham Road for approximately ½ mile before turning right onto Westfield Lane, which will take you over the old Railway Bridge. Keep going until you come to a “T” junction and then turn right and immediately left which will get you onto School Lane. Little Owls is situated virtually opposite the Toftwood Infants School immediately after the turning to Boyd Avenue.

Directions from Swaffham

Take the Roy’s exit of the A47 and then turn left which will take you back under the A47. Proceed along this road for approximately ½ mile, please be aware of the speed camera which will be on your right hand side, before turning left into School Lane. Little Owls can be found approximately 500 yards on your right hand side immediately before the Boyd Avenue junction.

Traffic from Mattishall, Yaxham, Wymondham, Hingham and Garvestone etc can gain access to the nursery by turning left at the junction immediately as you enter Toftwood (Westfield Lane) and proceeding over the old railway bridge. When you reach the “T” junction turn right and then immediately left and you have entered School Lane. The nursery will be found on your left hand side immediately opposite the Toftwood Infant School and on the corner of the School Lane and Boyd Avenue junction.

Travel tips

School Lane will be very busy between 8.30am and 9.00am and then again between 3.15pm and 3.45pm during school term time, so please avoid these times if possible.
