Peeking through the grass garden & Seaside builders tray

Exploring natural aspects of the environment

Here at Little Owls Scarning we are lucky enough to have lots of open garden space which allows the children to explore the natural aspects of their environment.

Within our grass garden we have several small windows engraved in the fencing which gives the children opportunities to experience day to day life around the rural setting such as farming
Today Snowy Owls have been watching a visit from the local tractor who’s been cutting the hedges surrounding the horses field ready for their return This filled the children with great excitement and fascination which also allowed them to hold lovely conversations with each other and make comments about what they could see through the windows!

“I can hear something” “It’s a blue tractor” “Look the tractor is coming” “The tractor is cutting the hedge” “Where have the horses gone?”

Seaside builders tray

In Tawny Owls this week we have been exploring a selection of seaside themed actives as it is a big interest in our room as lots of our little ones are going on holiday or have already been. So we have brought the beach inside for our little owls to explore.

The seaside tray included lots of sand, sea shells and a water area made from blue gloop. The children added some sea creatures to explore with.

Our Toddlers used their fingers to explore the texture of the sand, they scooped the sand up and transported it around the tray. Some of the children liked investigating the sticky gloop, they poked it with their fingers and drizzled it over the sand.

Whilst we were exploring this activity one of the children pointed to the gloop and said “blue”. A practitioner then went on to talk about the colours and the textures of the items in the tray.
