Sensory Tray

This morning Tawny Owls Scarning we have been exploring our sensory tray full of herbs
The children used their hands to explore the herbs and the rice. The children then also used the spoons to scoop up the ingredients and put them into plant pots and baking trays using their gross motor skills. The children also enjoyed mixing the ingredients together using the big mixing bowl and spoons. The children used their senses to smell the herbs and feel the herbs and rice. Well done Tawny Owls!

Murtle the Turtle

Yesterday Barn owls have been very lucky to have a special visit from one of our nursery practitioners pet turtle called Murtle !
During our visit we learnt alot of special facts on how to care for Murtle and his age ! Only being one years old !
Carrying on from yesterday’s special visit ,Barn Owls Red have started off by recalling relevant facts from yesterday’s visit during our morning group time ,
‘ Its green ‘
‘ He was small ‘
‘ He eats lots ‘
We then went on to exploring activities around the room , starting off with our builder’s tray using our imagination to feed our very own Murtle , at the creation station we have had the opportunity to decorate our very own turtle using tissue paper, discussing what colours we should use linking in with turtle colours .
Finally linking in with our school readiness we have had the opportunity to write the word ‘turtle ‘ using our fine motor skills using pencils .
Well done Barn owls

Books

Here at Little Owls Scarning we carry out many focused adult led activities based on our children’s love for books our children love to indulge in books with a practioner reading to them, then after we discuss how the story is structured.

Our children like to create representations of the main parts of the story, we discuss these and using our huge flip chart paper we draw what we can remember from the book.

“Ohh no it’s the giant”
“Fefi fo thumb watch out here I come”
“Magic beans, not baked beans though”
“What’s gold”
“Giant looks grumpy now”
“Chickens don’t lay golden eggs”

After story mapping the children chose to use their paper to make their own stories, some decided to draw people who are important to them (family) and others chose to make their own stories – one was about a “cat that climbed a beanstalk and found a magic flower”
our wonderful barn owls maintained high levels of concentration and created some beautiful artwork !
