Hibernation

This week here at Little Owls Scarning we have been learning all about hibernation and learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.

Our children have been fascinated by the theme of hibernation and have brought this to life in the setting creating some wonderful hibernation dens, hedgehog houses and focused sensory builders trays.

For remembrance this week we have been making lots of poppies different ways from yarn poppies, splatter poppies, playdough poppies, and poppies using various craft resources which our children could self select.

Some of the wonderful comments our children made were ……

“My poppy has 5 spikes on its leaf”
“We wear poppies for the soldiers they went to war to keep us safe”
“Poppies go round and round like a circle”
“My Poppy is going to be red with a black spot”

We are very proud of how well they were able to describe what remembrance means to them.

Bake of the week!

This week in Tawny Owls our theme has been ‘Bake Off’. We have been exploring lots of different activities based around baking! We have explored a flour mark making tray and we have decorated shaving foam cakes with glitter

Today we have been making mud cakes in the Mud Kitchen, the children have been very engaged whilst collecting mud using the utensils and they have enjoyed mixing it in the pots and pans One of the children said “mix it” and then began to scoop the mud out into the cupcake tray.
The children have also liked listening to the practitioners singing ‘Five Current Buns in a Bakers Shop’ and ‘Pat a cake, Pat a cake Bakers man’

They had a great time!
