The beautiful lake and grassland behind the nursery

Today in Barn Owls Yellow we have enjoyed creating leaf rubbings in the garden! Following on this interest we set up a leaf printing and sensory playdough station Barn Owls enjoyed smelling the playdough, talking about what herbs were used. Adding the mint to the playdough to make it smell nice and talking what other herbs we could use! Barn Owls then enjoyed creating patterns in the playdough using the leafs. Well done Barn Owls.

Today at our Scarning nursery we enjoyed a small group outing to the beautiful lake and grassland behind the nursery. The children all walked and listened to the adults/instructions to keep us all safe. When we were at the lake we enjoyed a group snack and story in the sunshine. We saw mummy/daddy geese with their babies and some ducks swimming in the lake. The children spoke about what animals might be in the lake. The children saw people fishing in the lake and we spoke about next time how we could look at using some nets to do a pond dipping experience. Whilst having our picnic snack we enjoyed picking daisys and buttercups; some of the children were holding the buttercups under their chin and some of the girls wanted daisies in their hair!
On the walk back to nursery we had to stop via the line of tractors to look at them up close. The children spoke fondly as it sparked memories of the time a few months ago that we had a tractor visit at nursery and the children got to explore the tractor.
When arriving back at nursery we went to visit dibs and Barclay the horses on the field next to the setting. The children are super excited that they have returned- as excited as dibs and Barclay were to see them I think and have lots of yummy treats!
“I can see one, two, three, four, five ducklings”
“There’s people fishing”
“I think there’s a whale in the lake”
“There might be clownfish”
“ I sat in the tractor tyre didn’t I”
“Your chin is yellow you like butter”
“I want the ducks to come over and see us”
“That was fun”
“Can we come again”
“Can I stand with you”
“Can I let go of the rope now”
“He’s sniffing my hair”
“He loves apples”
“There’s flies on the horses; it’s cos they’re smelly”
“I think there’s a mermaid in there”
“Look there’s a little boat”
“We see the horses near hunters hall when we walk Bella”
The array of interactions and learning opportunities from this little trip were immense and we covered so many topics of conversation!
