Under the sea

In Tawny Owls this week we have been focusing on under the sea following on from our children’s interest of water play and as a continuation of Earth day which was at the weekend. Our children have a big interest in animals and have really liked small world over the past couple of weeks so they have been really interested in a selection of under the sea themed activities such as meeting Murtle one of the practitioners turtle , exploring a seaside gloop tray and they have been creating marks and investigating in a crab tray
Our Toddlers have really liked feeling the texture of the turtles shell and they liked watching Murtle whilst he had a snack, some of the children pointed and said ‘Turtle’ ‘Swim’
Some of our older children explored the sensory exploration of a gloop and sand tray, they liked looking at the sea creatures and exploring the textures of the materials in the tray. They used their fingers to create a selection of marks and they liked mixing the sand and gloop together using spoons.  We have had a fab week exploring all things ‘Under the Sea’ Well done Tawny Owls

Sausage Rolls

Sausage Rolls
Each week in Snowy Owls Toftwood, the children have enjoyed taking part in cooking. Over the last few week we have been busy making biscuits, cakes and brownies. Today we have been busy making some yummy sausage rolls.
The children helped to roll out the pastry and then added in the sausage meat. We spoke about the ingredients we need to make our sausage roll and how we was going to make them.
We cut a section of the pastry and rolled our meat into balls, once we did that we then folded the pastry over to create big sausage rolls.
The children said..
“I make sausage rolls”
“Daddy and Mummy help”
” I like sausages “
Well done Snowy Owls

The Coronation

Today in Barn Owls Scarning, to follow our theme of learning all about the Coronation and the Royal Family, the children have been working as a team to create their own castle using items from the loose parts area.

They had great fun choosing which items to use and then using their gross motor skills to manoeuvre the pieces where they wanted them, the children decided to add a bridge and a lake to their castle, and the children showed great turn taking ability, taking it in turns to add their items.

After they were finished the children then role played being Kings and Queens and when they were finished, all the children helped their familiar adult to tidy up the garden.
Throughout the activity, there was lots of great communication, with the children talking about who lives in a Castle, all about Kings and Queens and other things the children discussed amongst themselves, with the children saying:

“I’m super strong”
“We need to make a big castle”
“First we need a big square”
“This is a magic gate”
“Working as a team is fun”
“We need a longer one”
“There’s crocodiles”
“Crocodiles in the lake”

Well done Barn Owls!
