Today at Barn Owls Scarning we were very lucky to have a special visitor in the form of Ollie the Egyptian tortoise.
Ollie belongs to one of our practitioners who when at nursery talks about Ollie her pet with the children and they regularly ask if they can meet Ollie- how could we say no?!
Maisie told us all about Ollie, what he likes to eat, where he lives, how old he is and some other interesting facts about Egyptian tortoises.
The children were curious about his cage, living environment and why he needed the lamp which sparked a big conversation on keeping warm and how animals and people keep warm in different ways.
The children were all extremely gentle when holding and touching Ollie. Animals are a big interest for many of our children, and having a nursery pet whom we handle every day (Barney the hamster ) encourages the children to be gentle, caring and considerate to living things and take ownership and responsibility for looking after others.
“ the shell is hard”
“Hello Ollie”
“I want to feed him some carrots”
“Tickle tickle”
“He’s very small”
“What’s the lamp for”
Thank you Maisie for bringing Ollie in to meet us- we hope to see him again soon
This week in Barn Owls we are getting ready for Christmas this weekend ! With only five days left to go before Santa takes his visit we have chosen to make mince pies as one of Santa’s favourite treats !
Recently within the room Barn Owls have enjoyed singing our new favourite song being the mince pie song with help of the Alexa .
“ A star!”
“Sticky”
“Big cutter!”
“Wow”
Barn Owls had lots of fun making their mince pies which will be taken home later today
