Watering plants, lifecycle of a chick, Firepit

Watering plants

This week in Snowy Owls we are continuing our focus on spring has sprung recently the children have shown an interest in flowers and how they grow. Over the last week we have been creating our own flower pots and adding seeds to them. We have spoken about how flowers grow and that they need water and sunshine
Outside this morning Snowy Owls found jugs they could fill up with the practitioner and found our plants around the garden to water. The children used good listening and followed instructions well from the practitioner. The children used there dominate hand to water the plants
This is what some of our children have said
“I have flowers at home”
“I have daffodils in my garden”
“We need lots of water”
” Water my strawberries” (at home)
Well done snowy Owls

Lifecycle of a chick

On Wednesday Charlotte came into Barn owls to talk to the children about the life cycle of a chick our children sat intently throughout and had lots of questions about what chicks eat, how they get out of their shell, types of chickens and so many more questions. On our large flip chart paper we drew out our cycle of a chick from egg to a fully grown chicken, our children then used the pens to make their own marks and representations of this too.
Early years activities which explore life cycles are the perfect way of encouraging young children to explore the world around them. The magical transformation of egg to chick in the life cycle helps to foster awe and wonder in the youngest of children.

Firepit

Today in Barn Owls Scarning we have had lots of fun around the fire pit toasting marshmallows
Our children enjoyed this opportunity and this sparked conversation regarding their knowledge about being near fire or needing help …. Some comments were;
“I know what number to call”
“If the tree is on fire we must call the fire engine”
“If mummy falls over and not moving I will call 111”
“When I grow up I will be a firefighter”
“When I grow up I want to be a Dr”
“I can be a fairy and fly if I want”
We spoke about safety around the fire and if there was a fire what can be used to put it out.
